Canada-wide warrants issued for arrest of Zachary Holland

Zachary Holland wanted for attempted murder and arson causing injury

Edmonton Police have issued Canada-wide warrants for the arrest of 25-year old Zachary Holland in connection with an attempted murder and arson at an apartment building in Edmonton on July 8.

The fire at the apartment building at 99 St and 86 Ave was set during the early morning hours of July 8.

Police allege that Holland and a young woman he had a year and a half romantic relationship with got into an argument that turned physical.  Zachary Holland allegedly knocked the victim unconscious.  “An assault took place where the victim was hit over the head with the lid from the water tank on the toilet,” said Scott Pattison of the Edmonton Police.

After the argument, police allege that Holland then went back into the bedroom and set fire to the suite.  He then jumped from the balcony to avoid the fire.  Luckily, passersby noticed the blaze and were able to help residents get out of the building.

The victim who was knocked unconscious was also able to escape the blaze.  Pattison said the woman “came out of the suite on fire once she gained consciousness again” and the men helped to extinguish her.

The 18-year old woman was badly burned in the fire and is recovering in hospital.  Three other residents of the apartment building were treated for smoke inhalation.

The Edmonton Police Service has issued Canada-wide warrants for Zachary Holland, 25, wanted on one count each of attempted murder and arson causing injury to four victims.

“We believe this individual is dangerous,” said Acting Staff Sergeant Mark Fay, of the EPS Domestic Offender Crimes Section. “We want to locate him and bring him before the courts. “If anyone has been in recent contact with Mr. Holland, or perhaps think they know where he may be hiding, we would ask them to contact police immediately. Their call could be important to our investigation.”
