57-year old Daniel McWha died in deliberately-set house fire

Calgary Police have determined that 57-year old Daniel McWha, the man who died in a rooming house fire in Calgary last week, was murdered.
The fire started at just after 9 p.m., on Wednesday, September 12 at a boarding house in the southwest neighbourhood of Mission.
When fire crews arrived at the burning home in the 300 block of 25 Ave S.W., they found three men on the roof of the house. They were also informed about Daniel McWha who was still inside the home. Crews managed to rescue McWha and he was transported to hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that McWha died from fire-related injuries. His death has been determined a homicide, based on the autopsy and examination of the scene.
An investigation by the Calgary Police Homicide Unit along with the Arson Unit and the Calgary Fire Department has determined that the fire was deliberately set inside the home. Investigators are not releasing specifics on how the fire was set.
