Fatal crash north of the City of Lloydminster
Ultralight crash north of Lloydminster claims the life of the pilot of the craft
The pilot of an ultralight aircraft is dead after a crash on Monday, August 20 on the pilot’s property north of Lloydminster.
Kitscoty RCMP were called to the scene of the accident. Witnesses told RCMP that the pilot was last seen yesterday conducting touch and go take offs and landings at a private airfield owned by the pilot.
Lloydminster Rescue Service were called in to assist with the recovery because of the challenging terrain in the area.
Sergeant Jamie Hubbert of the Kitscoty RCMP says members of the Kitscoty detachment along with Transport Canada officials and the Coroner’s Office have teamed up on the investigation. An autopsy is planned for later this week in Edmonton to see if there are any possible connections to the crash.
Sergeant Hubbert says the pilot was experienced and had recently taken delivery of the ultralight aircraft. The pilot was not known to have had prior experience with ultralight aircrafts.
At this time, the cause of the crash is unknown and the victim’s name is not being released at the request of the family.
