Three arrested after Big Horn First Nation armed robbery

A 12-hour search by various RCMP members resulted in the arrest of three people in connection with an armed robbery at a store on the Big Horn First Nation, west of Rocky Mountain House.

At about 3 a.m., on August 15, police allege that two masked men broke into the Big Horn Store.  The store owner disrupted the break and enter, and narrowly missed being assaulted by the robbers as the fled the scene in a small car.

The owner followed the suspects in his vehicle and a few Kilometres away, the two vehicles collided.  At that time, the suspects allegedly pulled a knife in the store owner who then managed to escape.

Constable Tom Meloche of the Rocky Mountain House RCMP says the suspects then attempted to conceal their car by switching license plates with another vehicle.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP along with Red Deer Police Dog Services and RCMP Emergency Response Team members located the three suspects 12 hours later and several Kilometres away in some bushes.

When police found the suspects, they also allegedly found cash and items that were from the Big Horn Store.  A warrant was granted to search the suspects’ car and police allegedly found other items that have been linked to the store robbery.

21-year old Angel Lafleur of Hanna, Alberta, along with two Ontario residents, 20-year old Kory Lalonde and 21-year old Michele Lapensee have been charged with robbery, break and enter, disguising themselves with intent and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

The three will be appearing in court in Rocky Mountain House on August 22, 2012.
