RCMP investigating two serious Three Hills collisions
One person dead, one critically injured
One woman is dead and one man seriously injured in two separate Three Hills collisions
One person is dead and one is in hospital in critical condition after two separate accidents on Highway 21, south of Three Hills on Saturday, August 4.
At about 3:30 am., police were called to a single vehicle rollover accident three Kilometres south of Three Hills on Highway 21. The Village of Linden Fire Department along with Three Hills EMS were also called to the scene.
When crews arrived they discovered that a 19-year old man was seriously injured in the accident. Sergeant Joe Sangster says the investigation has revealed that the man was the lone occupant of the 2010 Ford Fusion and while heading south on Highway 21 he left the road and rolled multiple times.
The driver had to be airlifted to a Calgary hospital and was suffering from critical injuries.
Sergeant Sangster says police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the collision. Criminal charges are anticipated.
The second accident occurred later in the day, just after noon. Three Hills RCMP were called to a three vehicle collision on Highway 21, just four Kilometres south of the town.
Sergeant Sangster says a truck hauling a trailer was heading south on Highway 21. The driver was waiting to turn left into the Braconnier Reservoir camp ground when a southbound Jeep collided with the trailer. The Jeep then flipped onto the northbound lane of Highway 21.
A woman driving a motorcycle traveling north collided with the Jeep. She was airlifted by STARS to a Calgary hospital, but passed away while en route. The male driver of the truck sustained minor injuries while the woman driving the Jeep was seriously injured. She was treated for non life-threatening injuries in Red Deer Hospital.
The name of the woman who died in the collision is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
Charges are anticipated in this collision. Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
