Calgary Police Tactical Unit and Negotiators were at the scene of an armed standoff in northwest Calgary for over eight hours on Monday.
At about noon on Monday, Calgary Police were called to a home in the 200 block of Rocky Ridge Drive N.W. The caller told police that she had been assaulted by a man inside the home and that a gun had been pointed at her.
The Tactical Unit and Calgary Police Negotiators were also called in. Negotiators were able to contact a man who was inside the home. He eventually surrendered peacefully to police at just before 8:30 p.m.
Police believe he was the only person inside the home during the standoff.
The woman sustained minor injuries but did not have to be hospitalized. Police believe she and the man were acquaintances, but are unsure of the nature of their relationship.
At this time, assault and weapons charges are pending against the suspect who is in police custody.
