Two northern Alberta accidents have claimed the lives of two men this August long weekend

A two vehicle collision involving a car and a semi truck near Grande Prairie on Sunday claimed the life of one man and early on Monday morning, a man was killed in a single vehicle collision in Fort McMurray.

On Sunday, August 5 at approximately 6:30 a.m., police were called to a two vehicle collision just five Kilometres south of Grande Prairie, on Highway 40.

Corporal Roy Kennedy of the Grande Prairie RCMP says police investigators have determined that the north bound car driven by the victim crossed over the centre line and collided with a southbound semi truck.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the semi was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Early the next morning in Fort McMuray, Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to the scene of a single vehicle collision on McLennan Crescent, in the Gregoire Industrial Park.  The accident occurred at approximately 2 a.m.

Constable Jesse Jones of the Wood Buffalo RCMP says when police and EMS arrived at the scene, they discovered that the vehicle had crashed into a light pole and that the 32-year old male driver was deceased.  He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but at this time, alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors.
