Calgary Stampeders offensive line hurt by inuries

So here’s the scenario. You’re a Calgary product, a Henry Wise Wood high school graduate and Calgary Colts alumnus and you’re making your first professional start on the offensive line for the Calgary Stampeders.
So how did things turn out on Spencer Wilson’s first night on the job? Oh, just a 31-20 victory over Hamilton as well as a combined O-line performance that featured zero sacks allowed and 233 team rushing yards.
It’s no wonder then that as he was doing a phone interview from Hamilton’s Ivor Wynne Stadium after the contest, the big man said: “I wish you could see my smile right now.”
With the Stamps plagued by injuries on the offensive line, Wilson came off the practice roster and made the start at left guard.

“I feel great,” said Wilson, who played four games as a reserve for the Stamps in 2011. “I thought I had a good game and, as a team, I thought we had a great game.”
In addition to Wilson’s starting debut, sophomore lineman J’Micheal Deane was switched to right tackle and made his first start at that position.
“I was a little anxious about it, no question,” said head coach and general manager John Hufnagel of the line juggling. “But I also thought it was their time to show up. It was a 50-50 deal there where I was pleased, but I expected it also.”
Amazingly, 181 of the Stamps’ 233 rushing yards came in the second half.
“It just clicked and we started running the ball,” said Wilson. “Both running and passing, the plays were working. It felt like the offence as a whole was working and the defence was giving us great position on the field.”
On the heels of his milestone first start, Wilson was reaching for his phone.
“The first person I’m going to text is my old coach from the Colts, Adam Blasetti,” he said. “He’s definitely the first person who comes to mind right now.”
As for what’s next?
“I’ll take my opportunities when I get them and always try my best,” he said.
