Transformer explosion in southwest Calgary
Explosion causes grass fire
The Calgary Fire Department responded to a number of calls concerning a number of possible explosions in southwest Calgary on Tuesday afternoon.
At just after 4 p.m., CFD crews were called to the area of the 8000 block of Horton Road S.W. When crews arrived at the location, they discovered that a single pole transformer had exploded.
The explosion sparked a grass fire directly below the pole.
Calgary Fire Department crews were able to quickly contain the fire, saving a nearby building from possible damage.
No one was injured in the explosion.
At this time, the cause of the transformer explosion remains under investigation.
