Northwest Calgary fire causes evacuation of neighbouring homes

One home was destroyed and two were damaged during a blaze in the northwest neighbourhood on Panorama Hills on Sunday evening.

The fire started at about 6:30 p.m., at a home in the 100 block of Panamount CI N.W.  When crews arrived at the two-storey home, it was fully engulfed and the neighbouring house to the right was starting to burn.  A third home, on the left side of the burning home suffered cosmetic damage to the siding.

Everyone inside the home where the fire originated got out safely and warned neighbours about the fast moving fire.

The Calgary Fire Department called in a second alarm to handle the house fires and were successful in keeping the fire from any other homes.

Due to heavy smoke from the fire, residents downwind from the house fire were temporarily evacuated from their homes while the fire was extinguished.

There were no injuries in the balze and the cause of the fire is under investigation.  At this time, there is no damage estimate available.
