With only nine players available for Tuesday night’s game and no subs on hand it was a physically challenging game for the Villains Magic 16 team.
Injuries and long weekend vacations dwindled the number of players on the Villains roster but not their spirit. The SWU Inferno were an intimidating group of precision, down to the line up of their gym bags, but the Villains played hard and brought intensity for the whole 90 minutes.
The SWU Inferno won 3-2, but it wasn’t an easy win. With several fouls, missed opportunities and a tenacious Villains defense the Inferno needed to recover throughout the game to keep the lead. Inferno coach Tim Shoults said he would not comment on the game.
“The fact that the girls worked so hard, had fun and played the whole game” said coach Wayne McNeill of the Villains. “It was a good effort all around, great team effort and a close game.”
“We played really hard and we did great,” said Villains team captain Sara Djellal.
For Djellal the team players that stood out were “the keepers and the defense, I think they saved our butts today, no one could get through them and especially our goalie for saving all those shots on goal.”
The Villains have eight more games in their season and plan on using practice and learning from mistakes to get better and keep their momentum going.
Goal scorers:
SWU Inferno:
#6 Kelsey Wiggers
#7 Kelsey Shoults
#11 Kaitlyn Steer
Villains Magic 16:
#9 Brooke Foose (both goals)
