Shane MacNiven of Prince George was killed in a single vehicle rollover accident south of Fort McMurray

A blown truck tire and the driver not wearing a seat belt are being blamed for the death of Prince George man near Fort McMurray on July 14.

The accident occurred on Secondary Highway 881, south of Fort McMurray at just before 7 a.m., on July 14.

Constable Christina Wilkins of the Wood Buffalo RCMP says police believe the northbound vacuum truck Shane MacNiven was driving blew a tire, crossed the centre line and ended up rolling over in the southbound ditch.

Shane MacNiven was the lone occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collision.  He was ejected from the truck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

The primary investigation indicates “that the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision”, according to Constable Wilkins.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are continuing to investigate the accident.  At this time, police do not believe alcohol to be a contributing factor.
