57-year old Red Deer man walked away from this ultra light plane crash

A 57-year old man from Red Deer walked away from a light aircraft crash near the Ponoka Airport on Tuesday morning.

The plane got into trouble right after takeoff.  It came down in a farmer’s field about 100 yards from the south end of the runway.

The pilot, and only occupant of the aircraft, walked away from the crash, but was taken to hospital by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries.

At this time, investigators believe the crash was likely caused by mechanical failure.  Transport Canada will continue to investigate to determine the cause of the crash.
