Building compromised during renovations

Street level businesses at Rocky Mountain Court ordered to cease occupancy by City of Calgary
On Wednesday, July 11, the City of Calgary issued an Order to Cease occupancy of the first four floors at the Rocky Mountain Court building in downtown Calgary.
The order came after the structure located at 221 6 Ave S.E., was deemed unsafe when the structure of the level 2 parkade floor was compromised during recent renovations.
Occupants of the street level businesses and parkade levels one, two and three were directed to vacate the premises within hours of the notice as a precautionary measure to protect public safety.
No safety issues have been identified for levels four and above.
“Our focus is on maintaining public safety, keeping the residents in their homes and getting the businesses back into operation,” says Cliff de Jong, Acting manager of Building Regulations, “we want safety concerns addressed as soon as possible, without compromising pubic safety in anyway. That’s our first concern.”
Occupants of the building that was completed in 1980, were notified on Wednesday of the Order to Cease Occupancy.
There will be no access to the Rocky Mountain Court parkade until it has been deemed safe. The adjacent building, Rocky Mountain Plaza is not affected by the order.
