Giddy Up Cup: SWU Red Devils BU14 win 3-1 over MUSC Barca
Red Devils drive for Giddy Up Cup gold
By Jessica Belbin
Heat was already a factor for Saturday morning’s Giddy Up Cup game, but both the SWU Red Devils and MUSC Barca played strong despite the rising temperature.
The Red Devils played aggressively and were quick on setting up kicks and throw-ins. But the MUSC Barca made the Devils work hard to get their 3 goals in.
Red Devils’ Coach Paul DelDegan is quick to affirm his team’s goal for the tournament, “Gold!” he declared. DelDegan’s strategy for the tournament is how they’ve been playing so far, “We want to just play solid defense, move the ball up the field, keep it in the oppositions’ end as much as possible, create chances and really take as many shots as we can when we’re in the scoring zone,” he said.
Red Devils centre mid player Travis Issler, #14, has high praise for his teammates, “I thought Matt, our striker, I thought he put his 110% effort in and he played amazing (in this game),” he said. Issler plans to bring his A game to the tournament as well. “Because I was just moved to this position, I want to help out both sides of the field as much as I can and help out on scoring some goals for our team,” Issler said.
The Gold Medal game for the BU14 tier 3 division goes at 3:15pm Sunday at Renfrew. Schedules and maps for the Giddy Up Cup can be seen at calgaryminorsoccer.ca.
