On a picture perfect Calgary summer evening the Saints 99 and Impact played some great soccer with warm fans in the stands.
With two goals in the first half, the Saints maintained their lead to get the win but the Impact were able to keep the pressure on in the second half so no more goals were scored.
Saints coach Stephanne Demers hopes their winning plan for this game brings the same results in this weekend’s Giddy Up Cup, organized by Calgary Minor Soccer.
“The strategy we’ve had all year has been a possession-style game and the strategy for the tournament is gonna be much the same. We’re just gonna try to continue to play possession, it worked for us tonight. We were doing some great overlaps, some great one two’s and it’s the style of soccer that this young group does,” he said.
Saints keeper, Clare Botterill said, “Tonight’s game was exciting because the other team didn’t score any goals and we managed to get shots on net and score.”
Botterill is hoping to repeat Thursday’s performance in the tournament.
“I think if we play our best then we have a chance to win. My goal is to get at least one shut out game,” she said.
Saints player Mady Gillespie, #14 says the best part of the game was, “I had lots of shots and our keeper was doing a very good game and she made a great save.”
On this weekend’s tournament Gillespie says, “I am looking forward to meeting new teams and play against higher levels and hoping that we can do really well. I just want to try my hardest and have fun.”
The NSDSC Saints 99 first match in the Giddy Up Cup, hosted by the Calgary Minor Soccer Association, is against the EIYSA South West United.
