Calgary Minor Soccer: Girls U16 T3 NSDSC Cardinals 97 win 4-0 over CWSC Sparta
Cardinals secure Provincials spot in Calgary Minor Soccer action
The Calgary Minor soccer action was non-stop at Rundle Field on Sunday. The gorgeous backdrop of the sundrenched Rockies made for a great Sunday afternoon on and off the soccer pitch. The U16 girls did not disappoint.
The NSDSC Cardinals flew onto the field with no substitutes on the bench to face the CWSC Sparta.
With their sights set on locking down a spot to play at Provincials in August, the Cardinals win of 4 to 0 means mission accomplished.
Cardinal Coach, John Finney was brimming with pride at his team’s accomplishment.
”It was an extraordinary game. We had no subs and we called up a young lady from Tier 4/5 who did a wonderful job. We played smart, didn’t overrun ourselves, and we didn’t run ourselves into the ground in the heat,” he said.
Coach Finney added, “I thought we controlled the game very well. We gave them very few opportunities and when we created opportunities, we buried them quite effectively.”

Cardinal’s # 17, Nicole scored two of the four goals.
“It was just a lot of hard work by the whole team, it’s not just me that got there, it was the whole team,” she said.
Nicole has been playing soccer since she was five years old. She intends to play for as long as she can. With games like today under her belt, who knows how far this sport will take her. Next stop for now – Provincials!
Feeling the sting of today’s loss, assistant coach for the CWSC Sparta, Les Szoke said his players have played a lot of soccer in the last three weeks.
“It’s kinda caught up with them. Now it’s time to regroup, re-energize I think we’ll be ready for the next one,” he said.
With three more games still to come for Sparta, it is possible they too can secure a spot in Provincials. Coach Szoke is optimistic.
“The road to Provincials isn’t over. Going to keep focused. It’s never over ‘til the last whistle blows,” he said.
