It was a tough Calgary Minor Soccer game on Sunday between Chinook Siena and MAC United.
Both teams played aggressively and the referee was kept busy calling fouls and handing out a few yellow cards.
Both teams also had some trouble finishing in front of the net but they kept the pressure on and kept the fans cheering with some great plays and saves.
MAC United coach Ahmad Haydar says the time of day was a factor. “
It’s an early game and our guys are not used to the early games, but they came in, they scored first and we thought we had the game. It was an even game back and forth. At the end of the day I think the better team won,” said Haydar.
United player #4 Belal commended the referee for his work on the field.
“The referee was as fair as he could be. He wasn’t lopsided at all,” said Belal.
Coach Alex Wilkinson of Chinook Siena feels his team needs more composure in front of the net.
“Based on today as a team we really need to focus on finishing in front of the net. It’s just a matter of getting that finishing instinct in these situations. It just comes with more play, just getting the guys more touches on the ball,” said Wilkinson.
Centre mid Siena player #16 Sindri likes the aggressive play saying it helps him mentally get into the game. He’s also proud of his team and what they did on the field. “
Composure comes with experience. Passing is the fundamentals. I’m happy that we passed a lot. We played a really good game today,” said Sindri.
Both Calgary Minor Soccer teams are preparing and hoping to make it to the Alberta provincials which will take place over several weekends in August.
