The under 18 boys of the NSD Predators and SRFC Santos took to the pitch in Thursday night Calgary minor soccer action. It was one of the last few games each team will play this season.

It was an even match when it came to skills but Santos played without substitutes. The team also had an active week of games. This was appearing to catch up with the boys, especially during the second half.

Rakesh Vashista, coach of the SRFC Santos understood his team was tired.

“We have back to back games. We played a game a couple of nights ago, we have another game coming on Saturday so in between, it’s about fatigue.”

The Predators beat Santos 2 to 1.

The fatigue these boys were feeling could also be from juggling their lives outside of Calgary minor soccer.

“With the U18′s, the boys are juggling between work and play and everything else. It becomes tough when you’re in a practice environment. It’s tough to get everyone together,” Vashista added. “The lifestyle changes. Typically they’re adults. They’re sort of moving ahead in the world now and figuring out what they want to do. There’s a shift that happens.”

The Predators demonstrated a gelling typically found with teams who have been together for a few seasons. Mike Babineau, NSD Predators coach, was proud the boys found their groove.

“We had our struggles this year. They really came together tonight,” Babineau said. “This team is new. A lot of them joined late in the season. Even the keeper we didn’t have the first couple of weeks.”

Joining the Predators three weeks in to the Calgary minor soccer season was # 4, Anthony, who drew attention on the field for not only his speed but his shoes. Glowing orange shoes. They were impossible to miss.

“They just stood out to me,” he said.

On a late Thursday evening, with the moon starting to replace the sun, they certainly made for a brighter Calgary minor soccer game.
