Calgary Minor Soccer U13 Girls going for gold at Alberta Summer Games

Calgary Minor Soccer Girls U13 at the Alberta Summer Games for a weekend of winning.

What a Saturday in Lethbridge for the Calgary Minor Soccer U13 girls team!

Yesterday at 2pm, under a blanket of serious summer heat, Calgary faced Sunny South at the Alberta Summer Games. They won 7 to 0.

Calgary’s Captains, Emma Fischer  and  Maren Flemming were a defensive force not to be reckoned with. Not many balls have penetrated Calgary’s defensive line all weekend. They’re 17 goals for and only 1 against.

Then there’s the incredible front line. Particularly, Nicole Wakulich who is clearly on a mission.

On Friday, when the girls won their first game 2 to 1, she scored both goals. During their second game on Friday afternoon, the team won 8 to 0, with three goals coming from Nicole. Yesterday when the girls competed once again, this time to secure a spot in today’s gold medal game, they won 7 to 0. When Nicole stepped on to the field during the first 20 minutes of play, she scored 3 goals.

Needless to say, those who have been watching the Alberta Summer Games 2012 soccer games will be able to say, “I had the chance to see Nicole Wakulich play when…”

These girls are playing very well together. Not bad for a group of under 13 Calgary minor soccer players who only had 10 training contact days to get to know each other and gel as a team in preparation for this weekend.

Last night, instead of dancing at the athletes social event, the girls chose to have a quiet evening of bonding, remaining focused and getting into a competitive mind-set.

Today at 10 a.m. the girls will be stepping on to the field at the Lethbridge Sport Park to face Edmonton in the gold medal game. It won’t be a cake walk. Edmonton is a strong competitor and shares in Calgary’s style of play.

The Alberta Summer Games will remember the names of these U13 Calgary minor soccer players and hopefully be announcing them at noon today accompanied with the word ‘gold’ at the medal ceremony.

Win or lose, our girls are coming home with gold or silver medals tonight, in addition to having experienced one incredible weekend.

  1. soccer fan says:

soccer is a team game! not just one player can play the game by themselves
10 other girls on the field not just nicole

  2. Kelly says:

Soccer fan. Right you are. Maybe you missed that part in your negative response. Let me point out a few in the article that you must have glanced over.

Again, Soccer is a team sport, as evidenced by the sentence(s)…

“These girls are playing very well together.”

    Here’s another one…

“…who only had 10 training contact days to get to know each other and gel as a team in preparation for this weekend.”

    And yet one more…

“…the girls chose to have a quiet evening of bonding, remaining focused and getting into a competitive mind-set.”

So to review, we’ve seen the words, “together” and “gel” and “bonding.”

Looks to me like a “team” won and it was very well noted.

Way to be anonymous and bring negativity to an otherwise well deserved celebration.
