Tourism summer campaign features Edmonton Indy

Highlights include the famous Edmonton Indy

New to this year's Edmonton Indy is the Star Mazda series with the city's very own Stefan Rzadzinski.

The summer marketing campaign for Edmonton Tourism will feature festivals, the Edmonton Indy and city attractions to target visitors from Western Canada and nearby American states.

“Many of our visitors come from neighbouring provinces and states. Our summers are brilliant and this campaign gives many reasons to choose Edmonton for a vacation,” said Edmonton Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Jenifer Christenson.

The Edmonton Indy is set for July 20 to 22.

“Edmonton is the epicentre of professional racing in Western Canada. New this year is the Star Mazda series, an open-wheel race that is part of the road to Indy. Edmonton’s own Stefan Rzadzinski will take part in the series,” said Christenson.

“Add to this Race Week Edmonton’s citywide events and its partnership with Taste of Edmonton, race fans just cannot afford not to be in Edmonton this July.”

Trip Advisor named Edmonton one of Canada’s top family-friendly destinations in last year. The city hosts more than 30 major festivals year-round which celebrate the arts, theatre, film, culture, sports and winter, and attract talent, fans and supporters from all over.

A multi-media approach targets potential visitors, including direct mail, e-marketing, promotional offers, and an anchoring website. Consumers are encouraged to visit edmonton.com/seeyouhere for visitor information, vacation packages, and coupons. They can also enter to win a summer getaway and are eligible for an “instant-win” opportunity.

Tourism ambassadors encouraged through the website entice visitors to the region. Residents can invite family and friends to experience Greater Edmonton through the “Visiting Friends and Relatives” program. Participants can win a $500 West Edmonton Mall shopping spree by sending out e-card invitations. By visiting the same site, they have an opportunity to win monthly prizes through the “Thank You Edmonton promotion” as a reward for being a tourism ambassador.

The summer campaign is a successful partnership between Edmonton’s Destination Marketing Hotels, the Edmonton and Area Tourism Destination Region, Edmonton Tourism, Travel Alberta and more than 15 tourism industry partners.
