Stephen Weiss facing sexual assault charge in connection with assault near Glenmore Landing
Calgary Police have charged Stephen Douglas Weiss in connection with a southwest Calgary assault on Monday evening.
At just before 10 p.m.,on June 18, a 25-year old woman was walking along a pathway to the west of Glenmore Landing S.W., when a man allegedly grabbed her from behind. Her attacker allegedly attempted to grab her buttocks, but she managed to fight him off and he fled the scene.
The victim immediately called 9-1-1.
Several police units attended the call, including HAWC, which was on patrol nearby. The flight crew from the police helicopter was able to identify a possible suspect and then directed officers who were searching for the man to the location of the suspect.
The man was arrested a short distance away.
44-year old Stephen Weiss, of Calgary, has been charged with sexual assault and has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance will be Wednesday, June 20.
Police do not believe this assault is linked to the sexual assault that occurred early on Sunday morning on a pathway near 17 Ave and Deerfoot Trail. That investigation is continuing.
