.32 BAC for Sucker Creek drunk driver

Just after noon on June 27, an RCMP officer conducting traffic patrols near Sucker Creek, Alberta, east of High Prairie, was right in the path of an oncoming driver in the wrong lane, who was clocked traveling at 174 Km/hr.

The RCMP officer managed to avoid a collision and stop the driver.  After investigating, the officer believed that the driver, a 28-year old Edmonton man, was impaired and the man was subsequently arrested.

The breath sample from the driver showed a blood alcohol concentration in excess of 320 mg per cent, or four times over the legal limit.  Police also discovered that the man was driving while suspended and had contravened other provincial statutes.

The Edmonton man is now facing charges of impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg per cent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while suspended and driving with alcohol within easy reach of an occupant.

Because the man had been caught driving while suspended, his vehicle has been seized for 30 days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Court in August, 2012.
