No explosives in burning Canadian forces vehicle traveling north of Edmonton

UPDATE:  After consulting with the Canadian military, Morinville RCMP now report that the vehicle that caught fire was not carrying explosives and that the sounds heard were vehicle burning noises.  Officials with the Canadian Forces Base Edmonton stress that the public was not in danger.  The burned vehicle has been removed and traffic is now flowing freely in the area.

On Wednesday, June 20, some explosives that were being transported in a Canadian Military vehicle north of Edmonton detonated and the vehicle has caught fire.

Personnel from CFB Edmonton along with Morinville RCMP are at the scene and traffic on Highway 28, near the intersection with Highway 37, is being re-routed until the area is safe for motorists.

There is no word if anyone was injured in the explosion and ensuing fire.

Staff Sergeant Richards of the Morinville RCMP says tow trucks are on the scene and the road should be open to traffic shortly.
