Artist inspired by grandmother’s country garden

Tweedy draws inspiration from her grandmother's lush garden.

Red Deer Arts Council and Red Deer Public Library present Flower Scapes: Recent Works by Elaine Tweedy in the Kiwanis Gallery of the Red Deer Public Library from June 26 to August 19.

Tweedy will attend the exhibition on July 6 from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Flowers have always been an important part of Tweedy’s life. Handed down through three generations, Tweedy remembers her grandmother’s country garden bursting with colour showing her colours, shapes, spaces, values and movements that herald an emotional reaction to the world around her with all five of our senses.

Tweedy describes the sensual experience as “a walk in the early morning discovering the flowers that opened overnight, the hummingbird in the honeysuckle, the combination of flowers, the wind, sun, softness of the petals and the spicy petal of the nasturtium.”

Join Tweedy on this exploration of her favourite subject matter in watercolours and acrylics. The paintings are based on the flowers in her garden, and because of their short life she had to paint quickly using her intuition.
