An open letter to Premier Redford from Raj Sherman

Dear Premier Redford,

Raj Sherman pens an open letter to Premier Alison Redford

I am seeking some information regarding yesterday’s announcement that Lee Richardson will be resigning as Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre to fill the newly created position of Principal Secretary to the Premier. So that Albertans may have a full understanding of this situation, could you please answer the following:

1)     Why is this new position even necessary?

2)     Was there a competitive search process to fill this new position?

3)     If not, then how do you justify this sort of cronyism?

4)     What will be the annual cost of this new office to the taxpayers of Alberta?

5)     Will Mr. Richardson be collecting his MP pension – estimated by the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation to be worth $79,408 per year – while receiving a salary as Principal Secretary?

6)     If so, how do you justify this sort of double dipping?

I thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. I trust you will agree that since there is ultimately only one taxpayer, Albertans have a strong right to full information as to how and why their money is being spent.

Sincerely,

Dr. Raj Sherman

Leader of the Alberta Liberal Caucus
