RCMP have armed and dangerous suspect contained in Coronation/Castor area


Stettler shooting suspect holed up in area between Coronation and Castor

RCMP have tracked down a suspect in a shooting incident in Stettler and have the man contained in an area between  Coronation and Castor.

The incident began on Monday, May 28 at about 9 a.m., when Stettler RCMP were called after a shot was fired at a woman who was walking along a road in the town of Stettler.

Staff Sergeant Shawn Lemay of the RCMP says police tracked down the suspect, but the man managed to flee from the responding officers.

He has since been located in a rural area off Highway 12, between Coronation and Castor, about 80 Kilometres east of Stettler.  Police believe the suspect to be armed and dangerous and are asking that the public stay away from the area.

The RCMP Emergency Response Team has been deployed to the site.

Doris Stapleton of the RCMP says more details will be released when they become available.

Stettler is 80 Kilometres east of Red Deer.
