Passenger unharmed in ATV accident
Drayton Valley RCMP are investigating a long weekend fatality in the Brazeau Dam area, southwest of Drayton Valley.
Sergeant Gerald Ouelletust of the Drayton Valley RCMP says that just after 8:30 p.m., police along with Drayton Valley Fire and Emergency Services were called to an ATV rollover accident in the Brazeau Dam area.
Police believe that there were two people on the ATV at the time of the accident. They were climbing up a hill on the south banks of the Brazeau River near the dam. While climbing, the ATV flipped over backwards and landed on the rider and passenger.
The 15-year old passenger from Drayton Valley was uninjured and the 40-year old driver was conscious for a short time following the accident, but then the man lost consciousness.
Sergeant Ouelletust says by-standers along with emergency services personnel attempted to revive the man on the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators believe that both rider and passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the accident and the weather was clear and sunny and the hill was dry.
At this time, police are not releasing the name of the victim, but do say that the passenger and driver were related.
A helicopter crash on Wednesday evening, north east of the town Drayton Valley has claimed the life of the pilot of the aircraft.
