Canoeists discover woman floating in Waterton Park Friday

Autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday

Waterton Lake National Park is located 55 kilometres south of Pincher Creek, Alta.

Canoeists made a grizzly discovery Friday afternoon at Cameron Bay in Waterton Park when they came across a woman floating face down in the water.

Around 1:30 p.m Pincher Creek RCMP, Waterton RCMP and Parks Canada employees recovered the body using Parks Canada marine craft. The deceased has been identified as a 23-year old female from Lethbridge, Alta. Police are withholding the victim’s identity pending further discussion with her family.

Waterton Park and Pincher Creek RCMP, with the assistance of the Calgary Major Crimes Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the female’s death.

Waterton Park is located 55 kilometres south of Pincher Creek, Alta.

An autopsy has been scheduled to take place at the Calgary Medical Examiners Office on Tuesday, 22. Police say more information will be released in the near future.

Police are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the event or had any knowledge of it is asked to contact the Pincher Creek RCMP.
