Breast Brunch Ever organized to help Calgarians with breast cancer battle
Features renowned speakers Rita Egizii and Barbara Cunnings Versaevel
Defying odds describes Rita Egizii’s story perfectly. Surviving two separate primary breast cancer diagnoses, five major surgeries and chemotherapy treatment didn’t stop her.
When Egizii heard about Breast Brunch Ever she was honoured to speak with her Wellspring co-founder and participate in a cause so important to Calgary.
“As a two-time survivor, I have learned the importance of access to tools which help to address the fear, isolation and disruption that a cancer diagnosis brings. Add to that the need to manage physical, psychological, emotional and practical problems, and the challenge becomes astronomical. Throw in the added burden of financial challenges that further add to the stress, worry and anxiety, and one begins to touch the surface of how enormous the impact of this terrible disease can be. As a co-founder of Wellspring Calgary, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of fundraisers such as Breast Brunch Ever,” said Rita Egizii.
Originally created by former Calgary Stampeders offensive lineman Taylor Robertson, who lost his mother to cancer as a child, Breast Brunch Ever is an event dedicated to raising funds for cancer, while raising awareness at the same time.
The inaugural Calgary event will be taking place on May 27th at the Delta Calgary South.
Funds raised will all go to Wellspring Calgary, an organization committed to providing cancer patients with the best possible support during their fight against this devastating illness.
Serving on the organizing committee is Ward 12 Alderman Shane Keating.
“Almost every family feels the tragic effects of Cancer. My family is no exception, with the passing of my brother at the age of 44. Every small effort we can make to help those individuals experiencing cancer, their loved ones and society helps bring closure to cancer as a disease. I feel it is my duty to raise awareness and to help all in need.”
Solicitor General Jonathan Denis, Virgin Morning Show host Danaye and CTV News Anchor, Camilla DiGiuseppe are just a few of the special guests who will be on hand with more to come.
