Toyota Corolla driven by 89-year old woman collides head on with semi truck
The two vehicle collision occurred just after 10 p.m., Monday night, on Highway 36 near Township Road 582, about 10 Kilometres west of St. Paul.
According to Constable John Spaans of the St. Paul RCMP, the 89-year old driver of the Corolla became disoriented in a sudden, dense snowfall. The woman drove into the oncoming traffic lane and stopped her car at a curve. The semi rounding the corner was unable to avoid a collision with the car.
The woman was rescued from her car and taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
Traffic on the highway was reduced to one lane for about 90 minutes while police investigated and cleaned up after the crash.
The accident is being investigated and at this time, police believe weather played a key role in the collision. Alcohol and speed are not considered to be factors in the collision.
