Coupon 2.0 discount coupon marketing program launched by Beacon News
Online discount coupons that benefit consumer and advertiser
By Markham Hislop, publisher
You wouldn’t think the world would need another online discount coupon service, would ya? But Beacon News found a niche. It’s a good one, too. You can check out current coupons here.
Let me explain. Ahem…
Last fall our ace reporter Christopher Walsh wrote a story about a Calgary small business that was in deep trouble because of an online coupon promotion it had entered into. Long story short, the owner offered a huge discount and then was swamped with five times more coupons than she was hoping for. She was already losing money on each coupon. Too many coupons put her out of business.
Doesn’t seem fair, does it? We didn’t think so, either.
Then we started thinking about it. Beacon News offers marketing services, why couldn’t we come up with a better coupon deal?
So, we did a little more thinking and we can came up with an idea: What if the consumer (that’s most likely you) AND the business owner (that could be you…if it is, call our sales department, ok?) AND the discount coupon service all got a square deal?
Radical concept, eh? I know! We liked it, too!
Now, I’m not saying the other coupon guys were doing a bad job. We don’t slag the competition around here, no siree. But talking to consumers and business owners it was pretty clear there was room for improvement.
We decided to call our service Coupon 2.0 – the next generation of discount coupon. I know, it sounds a little like a Star Trek movie, but the publisher came up with the name and who’s gonna argue with the boss, right?
But here’s the genius of Coupon 2.0: Turns out business owners CAN offer a limited number of coupons with discounts of 30 – 50% without going broke. You can check out current coupons here.
Sometimes they can offer a little more, like the 61% from Hirai Health, which was the second Coupon 2.0 out of the gate. But sometimes with big ticket items or low margin products they have to go a little lower.
Everyone wants to see local businesses thrive, right? Nobody benefits if the local hair salon or the neighbourhood pub goes belly up. We need to nurture those businesses, help them prosper so they keep people working.
To do our part, Coupon 2.0 negotiates its marketing fees. We sit down with the business owner, we talk about how much margin is in the product or service, how many coupons the business can realistically service and still maintain a high level of customer service – and then both parties agree on a fair price for the marketing fees.
Oh, we also provide a bunch of other marketing services with Coupon 2.0 the other guys don’t. But I’m getting off topic (unless you’re a potential client, in which case the sales department would love to explain the extra marketing services to you over coffee).
The main point is that you’re going to get a great deal on a product you want AND you’ll know that the business offering the Coupon 2.0 deal isn’t losing its shirt.
That’s a deal everyone can get behind.
