Weather not considered a factor in crash

Three people are dead and one person has been airlifted to hospital after a two vehicle crash west of the community of Alsike, 100 Kilometres southwest of Edmonton.

Staff Sergeant Brian Jones of the Breton RCMP says police were advised about the collision at around 7:30 p.m., on Monday, February 20.  RCMP investigators believe that a two door car was heading southbound on Range Road 40, crossing Highway 39, when it was struck by an eastbound pickup truck.

There were four people in the car, 3 of whom died at the scene, the fourth was airlifted to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.  The male driver and lone occupant of the eastbound pickup truck suffered undetermined injuries.

An RCMP Collision Analyst has been called in to assist with the investigation.  At the time of the crash, visibility was good and road conditions were not believed to be a factor.  Southbound and northbound traffic on Range Road 40 at the junction of Highway 39 is controlled by stop signs.

Staff Sergeant Jones adds that police expect traffic flow to be disrupted for several hours due to the collision.

The names of the victims have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
