RCMP warn of pyramid scheme
Taber/Vauxhall RCMP are warning citizens to be aware of a pyramid scheme that is operating in the area called Money Cloud.
So far, RCMP have received complaints about the pyramid scheme and want to remind the public to be careful when giving up hard earned money in hopes of receiving more in return. Constable Shea of the Taber RCMP says that often times, anyone who does get money back is doing so at the expense of others.
Constable Shea warns the public that just because you are told by someone that a venture is legal, that does not mean that it is above board. Also, if someone approaches you about a new venture and they are evasive, they are probably hiding something. Be cautious when dealing with people who want to use your money. Do not believe everything that is told to you because it just may not be so.
In a pyramid scheme, eventually the money runs out and there are more people at the bottom than at the top. Those at the bottom of the scam lose out. Constable Shea says “The best rule of thumb is that no one wants to give you something for nothing, and there is never a big easy pay out. The money is always coming from somewhere else”. Constable Shea rounds out the warning by saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is”.
