On Sunday, February 26, Calgary Police arrested 37-year old Keith Mitchell Stewart of Calgary in connection with a robbery at a Petro Canada store in the southeast on January 31, 2012.

The robbery occurred at about 4 a.m., at the shop located at 8338 18 St S.E.  Police allege that Stewart approached and threatened the cashier and then smashed the glass counter.  He then allegedly left the store with cash and lottery tickets.

In a press release issued last week, police were seeking public assistance in the investigation of this robbery and three other similar robberies.

On February 6, at around 1 a.m., a man brandishing a hammer walked into the 7-Eleven in the 7200 block of Ogden Road S.E.  He proceeded to smash the glass counter with a hammer and demanded money and lottery tickets.  A few hours later, a nearby Biz Food Mart was robbed by a man brandishing a hammer who smashed the counter.  On Monday, January 30, a man entered the 7-Eleven store in the 6300 block of Bowness Road N.W., armed with a baton.  He smashed the glass counter with the weapon.

Keith Mitchell Stewart of Calgary has been charged with commercial robbery.  He has been remanded in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, March 2, 2012.
