Malcolm Russel to delight audiences with magic
Mountain View Connection Concert Series and Lougheed House present Albion: An English Love Story on February 12 and 13 at 7.30 p.m. just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The Restaurant at Lougheed House will provide full reception catering service while guests are given the opportunity to explore the House, located at 707 13 Ave. S.W.
The concert features magician Malcolm Russel and works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frank Bridge, and Rebecca Clarke.
Albion is the ancient word for England, and the Valentine’s Day love affair is clearly one with English music.
The major work of the evening is the Piano Quintet by Vaughan Williams, played by Artistic Director Kathleen Van Mourik with Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Assistant Concertmaster Donovan Seidle, Philharmonic violist Michael Bursey, bassist Matthew Heller, and Calgary cellist Kirill Kalmykov.
Two works by Bridge will be performed – Serenade on violin and piano with Seidle and van Mourik, and Phantasy on piano quartet with Seidle, Bursey, Kalmykov and pianist Charles Foreman.
The evening is rounded out by Clarke’s masterpiece, her Trio for violin, cello, and piano, played by Seidle, Kalmykov, and Foreman, Russel’s magic performance.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $30 for students and seniors. They are available at Lougheed House, or may be reserved in advance by calling Mountain View Connection at 403-240-4174. Online reservation is also available at firstname.lastname@example.org.
