Two men and one woman killed
Surviving woman expected to recover
Police are calling the crime a murder/suicide. The tragedy unfolded about one km north of Claresholm in the northbound lanes of Highway 2 early Thursday morning.
When police arrived at the scene, they found two vehicles and two dead people, one man and one woman as well as two injured people.
The two injured, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital for treatment and the man has since died in care. The woman has undergone medical treatment and is expected to recover.
Police believe this is a murder of two people, an attempted murder of the woman and a suicide of one of the men in the cars. Sergeant Patrick Webb of the RCMP says all deaths and injuries were the result of gunfire.
Autopsies will be completed on the victims to confirm the cause of deaths.
Police will not be releasing the names or home towns of the victims involved as family notifications have yet to be completed. Police are reporting that all those involved in the shootings are in their 20′s. RCMP are investigating the relationships between the deceased and injured.
The highway has been closed and contained in both directions and will remain so until RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigators and RCMP Forensic Identification Section officers complete their investigation. At this time all possible motives for these deaths are under consideration by investigators.
Police expect the highway to be re-opened sometime this evening.
