Celebrate Christmas with George Canyon and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes the most requested Canadian artist on country radio for some down-home hits and seasonal tunes in George Canyon’s Country Christmas on December 20 at 8.00 p.m. at Epcor Centre’s Jack Singer Concert Hall.

Philharmonic resident conductor Mélanie Léonard leads this one-night-only concert featuring country-style Christmas standards and some of Canyon’s own hits and favourite songs.

Canyon and Philharmonic give Christmas carols a country twist with picks like Sleigh Ride, Merry Christmas Lonely Cowboy, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Silent Night and more.

After rising to fame on U.S.A Network’s internationally televised talent competition Nashville Star, Canyon went on to earn multiple Junos, East Coast Music Awards and Canadian Country Music Awards including “Humanitarian of the Year” for his philanthropic endeavors, and is one of the most requested stars on Country Music Television.

Canyon and Philharmonic give Christmas carols a country twist with picks like Sleigh Ride, Merry Christmas Lonely Cowboy, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Silent Night and more. Year-round hits are also up for grabs, including Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire, the foot-stomping Orange Blossom Special (arranged by Philharmonic’s Assistant Concertmaster Donovan Seidle), and Canyon’s own hits I’ll Never do Better Than You, Just Like You, Sunshine and more.

In 1912, Guy Weadick dreamed of starting The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth and next year marks the legendary event’s 100th birthday, with the Calgary Stampede kicking off its Centennial Celebration at Canyon’s Country Christmas.

Patrons are invited to arrive early to enjoy the Keister Family Fiddlers performing in the lobby pre-show, with a birthday cake for 1,500 to be served. Patrons will be given warm Western greetings by the Calgary Stampede 2012 Royalty: Stampede Queen Candice Lee, Princesses Jessica Manning and Danielle Gariepy, Indian Princess Amelia Crowshoe and Harry the Horse.

Tickets and information for the event are available through the CPO Box Office at 403.571.0849 or online at cpo-live.com.
