Ontario woman killed in MVA near Didsbury
A 62-year old woman from North Bay, Ontario died at the scene of a two vehicle crash on Highway 2 about 8 Km north of the Didsbury overpass on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred at the Amerada Road and Highway 2 intersection. Cst. Norm Therrien of the Innisfail RCMP says a 19-year old man from Olds was traveling eastbound on Amerada Road. The driver attempted to cross both southbound and northbound lanes of Highway 2 to continue on Amerada Road. When the pickup was crossing the northbound lanes it drove directly in front of a 2010 Nissan Sentra that was northbound on Highway 2.
The pickup truck rolled and ended up on its side on the east side of northbound lanes. The Sentra received major front end damage and drove into the grass ditch on the east side of the northbound lanes.
The Sentra was being driven by a 26-year old woman from Calgary. She had a 3-year old girl in the car with her as well as a 62-year old woman from North Bay. The woman from North Bay Ontario was treated at the scene by EMS, but she died at the crash scene. The woman from Calgary was taken to hospital in Calgary where she is in serious but stable condition. The 3-year old child was uninjured in the crash. She was taken to Calgary Social Services and turned over to family members in Calgary. The male driver of the truck was taken to local hospital where he was treated and released.
Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seat belts and alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.
The northbound lanes of Highway 2 were down to 1 lane for approximately 4 hours while the RCMP conducted the investigation. This collision is still under investigation and at this time, no charges have been laid at this time.
