Edmonton police arrest suspect in assault on Calgary bus driver

The man who allegedly assaulted a Calgary Transit bus driver in June has been found in Edmonton and is now facing assault charges.

Mikkial Cardinal, 25, from Edmonton was identified as the suspect after a passenger on the same bus took a video of the man and the suspect’s photo was distributed.  Cardinal was arrested on September 8 in Edmonton after numerous public tips lead police to the suspect.

Cardinal is believed to be the man who boarded a Calgary Transit bus at the Heritage Drive LRT station on Friday June 3 just before midnight.  He started singing loudly, using offensive language and drinking from a bottle of liquor.  When the driver and other passengers asked him to quiet down, he refused.  The bus driver then threatened to call police and at this point, the suspect went to the front of the bus to talk to the driver.  Words were exchanged and as Cardinal was getting off the bus, he allegedly punched the driver in the face.

Mikkial Cardinal has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and causing a disturbance.  Police credit the witness who provided the video of the suspect as well as tips from the public for locating the out-of-town suspect.

Cardinal will appear before the courts on Thursday September 15.
