Deadly fire deemed accidental

| September 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

Calgary Police Service investigators have ruled that a fire in which a man was killed and two others were injured was an accident.

The explosion and fire broke out in what police believe to be a homeless camp located near Builders Road and 50 Ave S.E., on Tuesday morning at around 2 a.m.  The Calgary Fire Department extinguished the blaze and discovered the body of the deceased man.  Two other men were located nearby with injuries.  They were taken to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

Investigators believe the fire was fuelled by two small propane tanks located at the camp.

An autopsy on the deceased male was conducted today, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet been able to confirm the identity of the victim.
