The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is heading to Banff on September 17 at 4.00 p.m. for an afternoon of music in the mountains, set in the spectacular new outdoor performance venue, the Shaw Amphitheatre at The Banff Centre.
Classical Banff: A Symphony of Taste places a world-class musical performance as the centerpiece to a culturally rich, mountain weekend getaway combined with extraordinary local culinary experiences. Overlooking the town of Banff and the breathtaking mountains of the Bow Valley, audiences will experience the stunning beauty of Banff National Park and the majestic natural acoustics of the new Shaw Amphitheatre.
Led by resident conductor Mélanie Léonard, Calgary Philharmonic will present a popular program of music including Tchaikovsky’s Finale from Symphony No. 4, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral,” and Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man.
The performance will also feature one of Canada’s most acclaimed and award-winning cellists, Shauna Rolston, as she returns to her hometown to accompany Calgary Philharmonic musicians on works by Saint-Saëns and Fauré.
“Banff National Park is clearly one of the most spectacular destinations in the world,” says Banff Lake Louise Tourism President and Chief Executive Officer Julie Canning.
“The Banff Centre’s new amphitheatre is a truly amazing and unique setting to experience one of the finest orchestras in North America”.
Special dining and cultural packages available for audiences include a special pre-show reception with Calgary Philharmonic Music Director Roberto Minczuk, special VIP seating, and post-show dining experience.
The weekend’s activities are presented through partnership between Calgary Philharmonic, The Banff Centre, and Banff Lake Louise Tourism. For more information, visit www.banfflakelouise.com/classicalbanff.
