Drive by prank causes injuries

Cochrane RCMP are hoping the public can assist them in finding the people responsible for causing a cyclist to hit the ditch and break his arm while on a ride early Sunday morning.

At about 10 a.m., three cyclists were riding eastbound on Highway 1A, about 2-3 Kms east of Grande Valley Road, near Cochrane when a vehicle passed by and someone inside the vehicle threw lit fireworks at the riders.

The smoke and flame from the fireworks startled the cyclists and made one of them go into the ditch and fall from his bike.  Along with a fractured arm, the rider had lacerations on his arm and leg which required stitches.

The cyclists believe that there were a number of drivers on the road who may have seen the event unfold and Cochrane RCMP are hoping anyone with information will call either their local police or the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
