Man tasered during stand-off in Red Deer

| July 27, 2011 | 1 Comment

At just after 11:30 on Tuesday evening, Red Deer City RCMP responded to a disturbance complaint at a home in Oriole Park.

When police arrived at the scene, they were confronted by a man in an agitated state who returned to the residence after police arrived.  The situation then escalated into a stand-off between the police and the 48 year-old man who was brandishing a knife and acting erratically.  Police officers attempted to subdue the man using a variety of options, but eventually had to use a taser on the suspect.

The man was then arrested and taken to Red Deer Hospital where he was admitted for multiple self inflicted injuries.

Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor in this incident and the investigation into this event is ongoing.
