The fatal accident that claimed the woman’s life took place on a farm 10 Kms south of Carstairs on Thursday July 28 shortly after 4 p.m.
RCMP report the woman was operating the ATV, for the first time, and had a 45 year old man from Calgary on the ATV as a passenger. The man is reported to be the owner of the all terrain vehicle. Neither the operator or the passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The woman lost control of the vehicle and drove it into the side of a barn. She suffered severe life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Her passenger was also seriously injured, suffering from serious head and internal injuries.
As STARS was unable to attend the scene, the two victims were taken by ground ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary where the woman succumbed to her injuries at around 8 p.m. The male passenger is in hospital and is not expected to be released any time soon.
Police do not believe alcohol to be a factor in this crash. The name of the deceased woman is not being released at the request of the family.
