Propane truck rollover crash closes highway for hours.

The driver of a propane truck that rolled over while traveling on Highway 872 has been hospitalized and the highway was closed in both directions due to the single vehicle collision.

The crash occurred Tuesday morning on Highway 872, south of Highway 608 near Hardisty.

Cst. Andrea Bole of the Killam RCMP says police believe the crash occurred when the driver over-corrected after driving off the road and into the ditch.  The truck the rolled over, ending up blocking both lanes of traffic.

The woman driving the truck was trapped inside.  Two witnesses to the crash were able to pull her to safety and she was taken to Hardisty Hospital by ground ambulance and later transferred to an Edmonton hospital to treat a badly injured arm.

The propane tank on the truck was not compromised in the collision.

Bole says the highway was closed for several hours and traffic was re-directed around the collision site.

At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs to have been factors in the crash.

Hardisty is approximately 200 Km southeast of Edmonton.
