Luka Magnotta video allegedly posted by Mark Marek of Edmonton
Mark Marek of Edmonton is facing a charge of corrupting morals. The charge is a result of the online video post on bestgore.com that graphically shows the murder of Jun Lin. Lin was allegedly murdered by Luka Magnotta on May 25, 2012.
Edmonton Police Homicide detectives charged Marek over a year after officers discovered that Mark Marek was the owner and operator of the Edmonton based website.
“It is alleged that Marek posted the video online in Edmonton, knowing the video that was sent to him by Luka Magnotta was depicting a real murder,” says Staff Sgt. Bill Clark.
Marek has been remanded into police custody and will speak to bail on Thursday.
Patrycia Thenu of the Edmonton Police says EPS homicide detectives may be laying more charges, pending further investigations.
Jun Lin was a 33-year old Chinese national living and studying in Montreal. He was killed and his body dismembered. His torso was found in a suitcase outside an apartment in Montreal where Luka Magnotta lived. His severed limbs were mailed to politicians and schools.
The discovery of Lin’s remains led to an international investigation into Magnotta. He was eventually arrested in Berlin.
Luka Magnotta goes on trial for the murder of Jun Lin on September 15, 2014.
The charges against Mark Marek have not been proven in a court of law.
