The Winter Walk in Edmonton will run from noon to 1 p.m., and begin at City Hall.

The City of Edmonton is encouraging citizens to get out and enjoy Winter Walk Day 2013 at City Hall, South from noon until 1 p.m. on Feb. 6, 2013 (Wednesday).

Winter Walk Day is an annual province-wide event that gets Albertans up and moving during the winter months.

Individuals, work groups, schools, and families are all welcome to dress warmly, get outside, and enjoy the fresh, crisp Alberta air.

The 30-minute walk will begin at the City Hall skating rink where there will be giveaways for the first 150 walkers.

The 1.3 km route will take the participants south to the Shaw Conference Centre around Canada Place, before making their way back to City Hall where they will head to the City Room for some tasty hot chocolate.

Held in partnership with the City of Edmonton’s Walkable Edmonton, SHAPE (Safe Healthy Active People Everywhere) and Be Fit for Life, Winter Walk Day 2013 encourages Albertans to find ways to have fun outside, get some exercise, reduce traffic and enjoy public spaces.

Those who are unable to make it downtown can hold their own event and record the number of participants and minutes walked by registering at the Winter Walk Day website.

The Alberta Legislature, the University of Alberta, and schools across the province will also have Winter Walk Day events.
