Vancouver TED conference will be smaller but feature 100 best TED speakers
The annual West Coast TED conference is moving to Vancouver next year which also marks 30 years for the iconic non-profit entity.
Technology, Entertainment, Design or TED is planning to build a theatre near the Vancouver Convention Centre where the annual conference will be held between March 17 and 21.
This will be the first occasion that the popular TED conference will take place outside its California birthplace.
The Vancouver event will be smaller as TED has decided reduce the audience size from 1,400 to 1,200.
Despite the smaller size, the event will feature the 100 best TED speakers of all time as chosen by viewers.
“[TED has scaled back] to strike the right balance of scale and intimacy and allow for more in-depth human connection,” reads a post on the official organizers’ blog.
Whistler has also been picked to host a sister event TEDactive.
Two TED conferences are held each year, one on the North American west coast , while TEDGlobal is held in Edinburgh in the United Kingdom.

The Fairmont Château has been chosen to host TEDactive 2014 where there will be a simultaneous broadcast of TED talks in Vancouver.
TED talks are organized by the U.S. non-profit Sapling Foundation. These talks feature speakers sharing ideas on a host of topics; including science, technology, society and politics.
Hundreds of people attend these talks and they are viewed by millions online.
The province expects to cash in on this popularity through increased tourism in the of speakers and live audiences.
“The world-renowned TED Conference moving to Vancouver is great news for our tourism industry,” said Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson in a statement issued on his official website.
