46-year old pedestrian dies as a result of collision with pickup truck in downtown St Paul on Valentine’s Day morning.

A 46-year old man is dead and a 74-year old man is in custody after a pickup truck collided with a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk in the town of St Paul on Thursday.

The fatal collision occurred at 9:30 a.m., at the busy intersection of 50 Ave and 48 St in downtown St Paul.

Constable John Spaans of the St Paul RCMP says the victim was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck.  The driver of the truck was making a left hand turn when the collision occurred.

Witnesses tried to assist the man by performing first aid on the victim until EMS crews arrived at the scene.

The man was transported to St Paul hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Cst. Spaans says at the time of the collision, the weather conditions wer clear with good visibility.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 74-year old man remained at the scene of the collision and was taken into custody.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

Charges are being considered against the driver of the truck.
